Garrett Crochet allowed one run on one hit in 7 1/3 innings and Trevor Story homered and drove in three runs Sunday to help the visiting Boston Red Sox defeat the Chicago White Sox, 3-1
Crochet (2-1) didn't surrender a hit until Chase Meidroth - one of four players the White Sox acquired when they traded Crochet to Boston in December - poked a single just past shortstop Trevor Story with one out in the eighth inning.
Crochet, who struck out 11 and walked one, retired the first 15 batters he faced. Brooks Baldwin became Chicago's first baserunner when he led off the sixth with a walk.
Story had three hits in the game, including a two-run double off White Sox starter Shane Smith in the sixth inning and a solo home run against Bryse Wilson in the ninth.
Alex Bregman added two hits for the Red Sox, who received a scoreless ninth inning from closer Aroldis Chapman. It was Chapman's third save of the season.
Smith (0-1) limited Boston to two runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out three.
The game was scoreless until the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth. After Bregman singled and Wilyer Abreu walked, Story hit a two-out double that drove in both runners.
Chicago made it 2-1 when Meidroth scored on Matt Thaiss' single in the eighth. The White Sox stranded runners on second and third in the inning.
Story extended Boston's lead to 3-1 in the ninth with his third homer of the year.
The White Sox had four hits in the loss, all singles.
Boston's victory came in the final matchup of a three-game series and prevented the Red Sox from being swept. The White Sox won 11-1 Friday and 3-2 Saturday.
