The Detroit Tigers activated second baseman Gleyber Torres off the injured list, and manager A.J. Hinch told MLB Network Torres will be leading off Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Torres was placed on the IL with a left oblique strain May 6 -- retroactive to May 4 -- and last played May 2 against the Texas Rangers.
Torres, 29, put up a .259/.389/.328 slash line in 32 games before the injury with two home runs and 11 RBIs.
The Tigers signed Torres to a one-year deal prior to last season. He hit .256 with 16 home runs, 74 RBIs and 85 walks in 145 games in 2025 and was named an All-Star for the third time. Torres returned to Detroit this season after accepting the team's qualifying offer.
Torres spent 2018-2024 with the New York Yankees. He is a career .264 hitter in 1,065 games with 156 home runs and 526 RBI.
The Tigers are also missing players such as ace lefty Tarik Skubal (loose bodies in left elbow), lefty starter Casey Mize (right groin tightness), righty starter Justin Verlander (left hip inflammation) and closer Kenley Jansen (right groin tightness).
Detroit entered Tuesday at 23-38 and in last place in the American League Central after making the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
