Juan Soto's third hit of the game was an RBI single in the 10th inning as the New York Mets rallied to defeat the host Baltimore Orioles 7-6 to open a three-game series Tuesday night.
Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso hit two-run homers before an out was recorded in the eighth inning to pull the Mets out of a four-run deficit. Ronny Mauricio also homered and Brandon Nimmo rapped a run-scoring double for the Mets.
Edwin Diaz (4-0) was the winning pitcher by tossing a scoreless ninth and Huascar Brazoban posted his second save by working the 10th.
Ryan O'Hearn, Baltimore's only All-Star selection, drilled a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning. Ramon Laureano followed that big hit with a two-run single, comprising a four-run Oriole uprising.
Jackson Holliday homered and joined Jordan Westburg with two hits for the Orioles, who were attempting to collect a four-game winning streak for the second time this season.
Orioles starter Brandon Young had an immaculate inning in the fifth, striking out three batters on nine pitches. Yennier Cano (1-5) took the loss.
Clay Holmes gave the Mets a solid start until cracking in the sixth. He was charged with five runs on seven hits in five-plus innings with one walk and five strikeouts. It took two relievers to get through the sixth inning.
The Orioles scored first on Holliday's two-out single in the third.
Young made it through five innings for the first time in his career, and he held the Mets scoreless before yielding Mauricio's tying homer to lead off the sixth.
Mauricio's fourth long ball of the season began the downfall for Young, who then surrendered back-to-back doubles to Baty and Nimmo.
Young was done after 5 1/3 innings, and Gregory Soto stranded two runners in the sixth.
Holliday's 12th homer came in the seventh off Alex Carrillo, who was making his major league debut. But Lindor's 18th and Alonso's 21st came a half-inning later off O's reliever Bryan Baker.
The start of the game was delayed for about 45 minutes because of inclement weather.
