Milwaukee left-hander Jose Quintana pitched seven scoreless innings in his team and season debut as the Brewers shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-0 in Phoenix on Friday.
Jackson Chourio singled and scored in the Brewers' two-run fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Brice Turang had three hits, including a two-run single in a four-run ninth.
Chourio has hit safely in every game since going 0 for 5 with five strikeouts in the season opener against the New York Yankees.
Christian Yelich had two RBI groundouts and William Contreras drove in a pair of runs for the Brewers, who have won eight of 10 since opening the season 0-4 and losing two members of their rotation to early injuries.
The Diamondbacks had four hits, all singles.
Quintana (1-0) faced one batter over the minimum in his seven innings, benefitting from double plays in the first and the second innings and a pickoff in the third. He was removed after throwing 80 pitches. He permitted four hits and no walks while striking out two.
Jared Koenig and Trevor Megill closed the win with one hitless inning apiece.
Quintana, 36, signed with the Brewers on March 5. He has made 30-plus starts in nine of his 13 major league seasons.
Arizona starter Eduardo Rodrigez (0-1) gave up six hits and three runs, two earned, in his most effective start of the season. He stuck out three and walked two.
Quintana permitted two singles and a walk in the first three innings got double play grounders from Randal Grichuk and Eugenio Suarez and picked Jake McCarthy off first.
The Brewers scored in the fourth when Rhys Hoskins and Frelick opened the inning with consecutive doubles off Rodriguez.
Milwaukee made it 3-0 in the fifth inning, building a rally on singles by Turang and Chourio. The runners moved up on a passed ball by Gabriel Moreno, and Turang scored on Yelich's groundout. Chourio came home on Contreras' sacrifice fly.
