Melbourne - The recent Netflix documentary, The Game Changers, features Novak Djokovic as one its producers along with other notable stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Cameron, Jackie Chan and Lewis Hamilton.
The Game Changers is a 2018 documentary that outlines the benefits of eating a plant-based diet. It especially focuses on the numerous benefits of a plant-based diet for athletes.
During a recent press conference Djokovic was asked to talk about how being on a plant-based for four years has helped him with his health and as an athlete to stay at the top of his game:
"Well, I'm very pleased to be plant-based and play on this level now for four-and-a-half years. It is a lifestyle more than just a diet."
"It's something that I'm really proud of, and hopefully that community grows even more. Hopefully I can inspire other athletes that it is possible to be plant-based and to recover well, to have strength, to have muscles."
"I'm not a weightlifter, of course, but I do have an optimal balance between the strength, power and speed. You know, nothing seems to be missing, at least from my experience."
Djokovic is no stranger to being different to everyone else. Djokovic grew up in a time when Serbia was involved in the Balkans war. As a teenager there were bombs falling on his country.
There was a time when he and his family escaped to the countryside to avoid the bombs that were raining down on Belgrade.
Djokovic is carving a new path in so many areas.
Djokovic is the first Serbian player to be ranked No 1 by the ATP. He has 77 titles (including 16 grand slams). He has time on his side to potentially be the greatest ever tennis player.
Is Djokovic going to set a new trend where athletes (and non-athletes) use a plant-based diet to improve performances in all areas of their lives?
Djokovic is certainly a game changer in more ways than one!
